Tuesday Arrive at Belize International Airport and we'll take you to your
resort in the San Ignacio area. There you will enjoy some great local food,
meet other teams in for the race and enjoy the hospitality of several La Ruta Maya
veterans.
Wednesday After breakfast we'll head to La Ruta Maya Outfitter's
headquarters, Barton Creek Outpost The Outpost was named one
of the Top 5 "Highlights Of Belize" by the Lonely Planet Guidebook. Our
group will enjoy the amazing jungle swimming hole, eat lunch and tour
Barton Creek Cave by canoe.
After Barton Creek Outpost we'll head to nearby San Ignacio where we'll stay at
The Parrot Nest on the banks of the Macal River. The Nest serves some of the
best home cooking in Belize. This will be our base of operations until the race
starts Friday morning.
Thursday In the morning we'll visit the ancient Maya ruin, Xunantunich.
After lunch in San Ignacio we'll get on the river for some time in the canoes.
Thursday evening there is a paddlers meeting, pre-race festivities in San Ignacio
and, for the prudent, an early bed time. For the not so prudent there is big fun in
downtown San Ignacio!
Friday RACE DAY! An early start puts us on the river for a 7 am
shotgun start.
Friday Morning - Monday Afternoon Heroic displays of intestinal fortitude
competing in the La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge!
Monday Afternoon - Thursday Morning We head to the beach where
we'll recover from the race and enjoy the Belizean coast. Food, transport and
lodging are still covered but you might consider additional snorkeling, fishing
or diving adventures.
Thursday Morning Its off to the airport where you'll bid farewell to your new
best friends and reassure each other that you'll be back again next year.
